Apopka Florida
Incorporated in 1929, Apopka is a city that is situated in Florida’s Orange County. The city got its name from the Seminole term “Ahapopka”, which directly translates to “potato eating place”. The area under Apopka was once home to the Acuera people in the early 1700s and was later succeeded by settlers from Georgia and Alabama, who formed a Seminole tribe in the region.
In the late 19th century, a large number of people settled in the area after the American Civil War, leading to the construction of railroads and infrastructure development in Apopka. Present-day Apopka is home to a population of about 53,000 people, expanding over a total area of 35.21 square miles at an elevation of 131 feet.
The city of Apopka is known for the longest-serving mayor in the U.S, John H. Land who had served as a mayor for more than 61 years. A number of historic buildings and structures such as the White-Davis House, the Apopka Seaboard Air Line Railway Depot, and the Ryan & Company Depot Yard add to the heritage and illustrious history of the area.
Apart from its history, Apopka is also home to a number of tourist attractions such as Lake Apopka, Kelly Park in Rock Springs, and Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive.
