An unincorporated census-designated place of over 24,000 inhabitants, Bloomingdale is a census-designated place (CDP) situated in east-central Hillsborough County in Florida, the U.S. With an area of 8.4 square miles, it houses over 5600 families that make use of Hillsborough county schools and the Bloomingdale High School for their children.
The town was settled in by businessmen in 1850, who later founded the Bloomingdale school in 1884, attracting many families and teachers to arrive and settle. The town went into decline in 1890 after a railway line nearby was constructed elsewhere, but also picked back up in 1960 and primarily became a commuter town since then.
