Founded in March 1844, Marion County is a U.S county that is situated in the North Central region of Florida. Formerly a part of the Mosquito, Orange, and Hillsborough counties, Marion was created as a separate entity from portions of each property in 1844. Marion is named after Francis Marion, who was a general and guerilla soldier who fought in the American Revolutionary War. He was given the title “Swamp Fox” for his heroism and swift tactics.
