Incorporated in May 1925, Sebastian is a city in the Indian River County that is situated in Southeast Florida. Initially, Sebastian was a fishing village in the late 19th century with Thomas New and David Gibson as the first settlers in the region. The first-ever post office in Sebastian was known as ‘New Haven’, while the area itself became to be known as St. Sebastian. After Sebastian was incorporated as a city, the ‘St’ was removed from its official name. As of 2019, the total population of Sebastian was recorded at 21,929 people, and the total geographical area of Sebastian is 14.84 square miles.
