Founded in January 1849, Putnam County is a U.S community that is located in the Northeastern region of Florida. Putnam County is named after Benjamin A. Putnam, who was an officer, lawyer, and legislator who served in the First Seminole War. Putnam was created from portions of Marion, Alachua, St Johns, Orange, and Duval Counties, having a total geographical area of 827 square miles. Putnam has its county seat in Palatka, which is also the largest city in the county. According to a population estimate in 2019, the total population of Putnam is estimated to be at 74,521 people.
