Historically, South Daytona was once a town that was named Blake. The town was named after a wealthy businessman from Boston, and only had about 40 residents in its area.
In 1926, three districts named Daytona Beach, Seabreeze and Daytona were consolidated to create South Daytona as a city. This process annexed the former town of Blake into present day South Daytona. Today, South Daytona is a rapidly developing city that covers a total area of 5.04 square miles, with 5,851 households in its area.
